Croston Pre-School Nursery is a registered charity (no. 1100800) with over 40 years of experience. We are located in the pleasant and peaceful surroundings of the Grade II listed ‘Croston Old School’ which is situated in the centre of the village at the end of Church Street and next to the 900 year old church. The River Yarrow flows past our outdoor play area, and we also have access to The Bishop Chester’s Wood in the church grounds.
Croston Pre-school Nursery began life in February 1973. It became a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance at the same time. The pre-school has had several homes over the years including the church vestry, the Sports Club and the Cricket Pavilion. Following an arson attack in November 1991 which completely destroyed the Pavilion and all its contents, pre-school eventually settled in the over 60’s club on Castle Walks whilst it raised funds and sought a new permanent home. It finally achieved this aim in April 2001 with the opening of the Croston Old School Community Resource Centre in Church Street. Pre-school Nursery now occupies a wing of this listed building which has been totally renovated with a grant of almost £0.5 million from the National Lottery.
